OOC: I've been expecting Addam to do a Pod Payne, which is why I'm helping. (The shy, stuttering kid becomes kickass fighter)
"Thanks," said Garrett, flashing him a brilliant smile. Addam reminded him of himself, in a way. "While Tom holds off Alliser, you may ride with me to the melee arena." Grinning with excitement, Garrett mounts his grey courser.

As they ride, Garrett sees curious looks thrown their way.
"Who the fuck is that, Garrett?" a knight from Ironoaks yells out.
"The Knight of the Moon, Pisspot," Garrett replies. "And he'll be bending your helm in twelve different shapes soon enough, so I'd watch my mouth if I were you."

Addam struggles onto his palfrey tied up nearby and trots along with Garrett, wincing slightly as he bounces around on the saddle.
"So where do you come from, Ser Garrett? My family are from near Oldtown."

"My father is the Lord of Redfort, and my aunt Elara is the mother of Lady Elane Royce," Garrett said. "I'm third in line, with nothing to inherit. Alliser gets Redfort, Tommen gets Gull Tower, the seat of House Shett, which was given over to us during the war. I'm Ser Landless, so I'm glad the Red Royce has taken me on. I'm not made for lands anyway. I'm made for tourneys and battle and glory."
He turned to smile at the squire. "What about you? How is your father related to Rindwynd?" He had heard tales of Ser Donal's wealth, yet not much of Ser Donal himself. "Does your father really have a mistress from Asshai?"

Addam twisted in the saddle, trying to look confident and relaxed, like Ser Kitwell. "My lord father is the half brother of Ser Rindwynd and Lord Gathor. He was legitimised by Lord Randyll several years ago and granted lands outside Oldtown but like you ser, I care nothing for lands and titles. Glory and honour are the real prizes a warrior wants!"
"As for the lady Gisella." Addam grimaced and gestured uncertainly "She is not my father's mistress but I do not like her and her strange ways." Addam leaned across and whispers to Garrett "My lord father has even forsaken the Seven and took up with her god!" he says in a horrified voice. "Ever since my lady mother died last year, he has been acting oddly, spending more and more time away from home at the Citadel with her. I do not like it." Addam said, sounding troubled.
He shakes his head, as if to clear his thoughts "Anyway, I have given some thought to travelling with Ser Kitwell and Princess Rhae to Kings Landing. I'm near a man grown and ready to strike out on my own. Perhaps we could form our own band of warriors, righting wrongs and defeating bandits in the Kingswood!" Addam grinned excitedly.

Garrett was not as scandalized as Addam at Ser Donal's faith in Rh'llor. He was not so pious as that, but he did find it surprising. He laughed at Addam's suggestion. "You'll want to join the Black Shields then," he said. "They're Vale men for the most part, but they'd take you. They ride around the crownlands saving smallfolk from bandits."
"If you want work in King's Landing, perhaps you could call at the Red Keep, or House of the Rune. Lord Breyn is a good lord, if a trifle stern, and he rewards good service richly. And as you'd be serving the Master of Laws, you might even be kept with him in the Red Keep."

"That is very kind of you ser but at least for now, I'll stay with Ser Kitwell. And once I become a knight, I'll go on all sorts of adventures" Addam's voice trailed off as he imagined fighting battles, seeing dragons and saving damsels in distress. Especially the last one.

"The next adventure is the lion's tourney," Garrett said as they rode into the arena. He saw knights of the Reach, Vale and Stormlands assembled, talking and exercising. "My brothers and I are going for it, as is Lord Rhodri, Ser Robert, Lady Elane - well, all of us, really. Dare I assume that I'm going to see you there - with a lance, this time?"

Three girls call down from the castle. "Ser Garrett!" Garrett looks up and they blow kisses down at him. A fourth one appears and cries, "Who's the knight with the half moon?"
Garrett winks at Addam.
Tommen and Alliser ride into the arena, and Tommen guides Alliser off to the other Vale knights, leaving Garrett and Addam alone.

OOC: I think Addam should still be able to challenge at the joust -- that hasn't been officially concluded yet, and he's a pc-controlled character, so letting him get involved should be a priority. I know everyone is getting set for the melee, but I would like to wrap up the jousting properly first.

ooc: Thanks for the offer but I may as well let him just enter the Melee now. He's not stealing my glory at the jousting! What if he wins??

OOC: Yeah, the scene is pretty much set for the melee now anyway, both in this thread and the other one.

Ser Samwise Rivers walks up to Garret and Addam. He nods cheerfully at them. "Im off to practise for the Melee. Join me?"

"I fear I am no match for the likes of you, ser," Garrett smiled. He knew better. Knights often asked each other to practice, but in truth it was only to see how the other man fought.

Addam stood silently in his armour. He was not about to give himself away before the Melee even started. He'd "practice" on the man later
