Garrett Redfort disentangles himself from a bright-eyed Reach maiden, and approaches Princess Emelia with a bow and a smile. "Will the Princess of Dorne honor me with a dance?"
At table, Ser Robert is being pressed with wine and congratulations. He engages Prince Elester in conversation, to discuss the finer points of jousting.

"We have similar situations. The former Hand, Michael Dondarrion, is Lord Paramount, but he is crippled and childless. As his heir and lord of Storm's End, many of the Stormlords now defer to me. We must take advantage of your influence in the Vale and mine in the Stormlands for our mutual benefit. I have no head for business, but we are poor here, and surrounded by wealthy foes, Dorne, the Reach, even the Crownlands. Something must be done. We can work together."

Elane was silent for a while. Then she asked, "Work together...to what end? I have no immediate plans for myself. Ser Robert means to find a husband for me, but I am not so sure. Whoever marries me pretty much as the loyalty of the Vale, and I don't know if I want that. But Uncle Robert's plans aside, what are your plans?"

"You needn't worry about wealthy foes, " she added, glancing at Princess Emelia. "The Vale is wealthy these days, and you are her son."

"That's where I'm unsure. As I said, I have no wisdom when it comes to coins. Is there any advisor or steward you have with the talent to help the Stormlands? The Stormlords sit in their stone halls and do not think of the future."

Prince Elester has plundged into conversation with Ser Robert with such intensity and enthusiasm, that he barely notices, whats going on in the pavilion

"Maester Cerwyn advises me in matters of healing, Ser Robert counsels me in dealing with skirmishes and raids, Lady Martina advises me on running a household. But nobody advises me in matters of ruling. In that, I take my own counsel, and occasionally Breyn's. But Breyn is in no position to personally help you. I am the advisor you want in that, cousin, if you'll have me."

"But could you leave the Vale to join me here, cousin? Ravens are slow, and sometimes faithless."

"I repeat myself," Ser Robert said after yet another mug of beer. "This here young prince will rise, I say. Rise. Did you see him joust today, Ser Kit? Very well done, my lord, very well done. You and Ser Kennos gave me my best matches."
"I agree," Tommen Redfort put in. "But Warren Blackwood and Lucian Martell had the closest match." Several agree.

If I did very well today, then you did even better than that, Prince Elester smiled to Ser Robert. Would you like to have an off-lists joust as a rematch after the rest of the tourney is finished? He asked.

Elane pondered that. She had built up the wealth, safety and commerce of the Vale since the war. The people looked up to her and were loyal to her. She had become famous there. And yet...
"I think I've done all I can for the Vale," she said. "Lord Commander Hunter keeps it safe, Maester Cerwyn can run the Moon Maid's Shelters, Ser Alliser knows my spies and my trade. And I would enjoy living with you, meeting new people and working on new things. I think I'll take that offer, Rhodri."

Ser Brandon Buckler, broad of shoulder and clad in a blue silk tabard, joins the conversation between the jousters. He is Captain of the Guard at Storm's End.
"Blackwood and Martell was a joust men will speak of for another year or more. Eight passes. I only regret my day ahorse was so short that I could not face either man."

"Gladly, young prince," said Robert Royce. "And I'll show you how to couch that lance too. It's not a spear, lad." As Giles Grandison passes Ser Robert another horn of ale ("the champion's horn, Ser Robert! Have a bit!"), Ser Robert continues, "Will you also be joining the melee, Prince Elester?"
"Never mind, Ser Buckler," said Tommen Redfort. "You will join us in the melee? My brothers and I are entering."

"The Stormlands would be honored to have you as guest. I think the potential is here, the potential for better crops, and the sale of our timber. But we lack the organization and the tradition."

"Surely you must join the melee, your highness." says Buckler. "We only joust to while the time before the melee."
