Elane smiled and clapped as Ser Robert unhorsed Ser Tomas. Others cheered as well, but they were more enthusiastic when 18-year old Ser Alliser defeated the Stormshield. "It looks good for you too, cousin," Elane said, seeing Rhodri's face. "The storm lords will like that their lord came from such good stock."

Alliser Redfort laughed as Grandison knocked Tommen clean off his horse, but Garrett, young and soft-hearted, ran to pick up his older brother.
When Garrett defeated Selmy, the commons and highborn cheered loudly, partly out of shock. Smiling and blushing, Garrett wheeled his horse about to look for Ser Donal Tyrell.

Ser Giles Grandison should not have feared the Worm. His skill with the lance was being proven before the assembled masses, and it only took one ride to leave Steffen choking on dust. Rhodri stood up to applaud his young knight, son of his Castellan.
In a shocking turn of events, fifteen year old Garrett Redfort continues the successful day for Valemen by defeating the well regarded Lord Betram Selmy. Seeing this, Rhodri descends from the stands and knights him on the spot -- if he can stand amongst the champions, he can be a knight.

"The Sleeping Lion is fiercer than the roaring one," Elane said dryly. "And it seems my cousins are not as soft as I thought."
Ser Robert then defeated Prince Elester Martell, but it was a close thing. Ser Robert helped the boy off the ground, and said, "Well rode, young prince. You'll be a fine jouster some day."

Garrett rides to join the champions, looking excited. Alliser congratulates him. Tommen Redfort sits with the other Vale knights, looking a little left out but proud of his brothers.
In the next round, however, Garrett is unseated by burly Ser Donal Tyrell, to cries of dismay from the Vale knights and many girls in the crowd. Garrett accepts defeat gracefully and congratulates the Tyrell knight.

In what the commons call the best fought match of the day, Ser Robert Royce and Prince Elester Martell, Ser Robert defeated the Dornishman after five tilts and a series of well placed hits from each man. The crowd roars with each pass, and applaud both men after the contest. Ser Robert Royce returns to the champions field to great acclaim, though the young Valeman, Garrett Redfort, newly a knight, does not have long to savor success as Ser Donal Tyrell defeats him.

Ser Rindwynd Tyrell, nearly the champion at King's Landing all those years ago, shows his skills have not slackened and adds a second Tyrell shield to the list of champions, defeating Ser Alliser Redfort. The reign of Redforts is at an end, and the glory of the Tyrells seems ascendant.

Tommen laughs in retribution as Alliser is unseated by the next Tyrell knight. Alliser doesn't take defeat so well, and spits, "Bloody roses."

"Turn and look, young Valeman, that rose has already lost its thorn. Ser Lucian Martell made short work of him. Rindwynd is a strong horseman, so this does Ser Lucian honor."

Ser Donal walks across to congratulate young Garrett Redfort "Well fought, Ser." Donal clapped the lad on the shoulder "It seems that House Redfort has some mighty warriors to help defend the Vale. Should you ever tire of it, I would welcome someone like you in Oldtown to keep the ruffians there in check" Donal winked at the young lad, out of sight of his brothers. "And Lord Rhodri, may I say the tournament so far seems a great success. Your knights do you proud."

Elane gasped as Ser Benfred Vance was thrown from his courser by Giles Grandison. "The Waking Lion is having a good day," she remarked.
Garrett Redfort joined them. "Once again, I am honored that you knighted me, Lord Rhodri," the comely youngster said. "May I have the honor of sitting with you?"

The crowd screams, gasps and shouts as Warren Blackwood and Lucian Martell ride tilt after tilt, until finally Warren unseats Lucian.
"That was a close one!" Garrett says, wide-eyed. "Did you see them? That was brilliant!"
Elane is suddenly reminded of Addam Tyrell, Ser Kitwell's squire, and bursts out laughing. In the next round, Ser Robert Royce unseats Ser Kennos Keath, and then Garrett begins jumping and yelling. "Yes! YES! I KNEW HE COULD!"
"Calm down," Elane says, her mouth twitching. Alliser is watching sourly.

"Please join us young man. You have brought yourself great honor here today. The knight you defeated, Lord Betram Selmy, commanded my right flank in the Battle of Casterly Rock. He is a skilled horseman, commander, and a knight of some renown."
Rhodri leaps to his feet as he watches the latest match -- once again, Ser Lucian Martell is involved in a great contest, this time against the Heir to the Riverlands, Warren Blackwood. This time it takes a full eight passes, but it is Warren Blackwood, the pagan from Raventree, who claims victory.
"I'd offer to knight him as well, but I don't think he'd be too keen."

"I have heard of Lord Selmy's deeds, my lord, and I am thrilled and honored," Garrett said earnestly. He looked back at Warren Blackwood with interest. "Is he a squire too, my lord?" Then Garrett remembered he was Ser Garrett now, and grinned.
