"The company is pleasant indeed, although we appear to have lost Lord Robert. Affairs of the realm no doubt." She smiled. "So tell me of yourself Garlan. Are you married, or perhaps once you were? Many a strong son serving here in Old Town with grandchildren for company?"

"No I have served the Hightower for my 40 years and that gave me no time to wed. It saddens me as I would of loved to have a son or held a woman as my own." Garlan's head hangs low.

"A shame Garlan. Truly a shame. You should speak to my son Francis. I keep telling him he must wed, and he tells me, later mother, later. But if not now, then when. He's soon to be 24. I'd had both my boys long before 24. Still there must be many pretty lasses who wouldn't mind the attention of the Steward of the Hightower?"

"Really, would I know any of those pretty lasses personally." Garlan looks at Ilisebeth dreamily.

She offers a tight lipped smile. "I do not think that Lord Robert is coming back, shall we order dinner?" She asks. "If you've a thought to what might be good, I'd hear your recommendation."

"Yes I never know with that boy." He looks up at Ilisebeth, "Ah yes the roasted pheasant with Arbor wine sauce is very good I recommend that."

"It will be as he says," She commands the waiter, "I've learned never to argue with a steward when it comes to provisions. Isn't that right Garlan?" She smiled again.

"Na I could tell what sort of apples were the best to buy right now." Garlan once again looks Ilisebeth up and down.

"And what color apples would be best to buy this year? I hear some of the red apples are past their prime and fit for nothing more than cider. Is that so?" She smiles wickedly.

Garlan laughs and as his face stretches you see what would of been a handsome man in his prime, "Yes you quite correct but I have never liked apples myself an sort." Garlan moves slightly closer to Ilisebeth.

She pats the steward's arm affectionately. Just as she opens her mouth to say something else, the pheasant arrives, beautifully arrayed in its succulent wine sauce.
"My oh my... I do hope you are a big eater Garlan, I can't possibly finish this without your help."

"You've started without me you Bastards." Robert has a huge grin across his face.
Garlan looks up, "Sorry M'Lord you were away for so long."
"Yes sorry I was talking to the Captain of the Oldtown Guard." Robert pulls a breast off and begins to eat. "Magnificent." He says through chewing.

"Garlan picked it Lord Robert." She begins to eat a piece as daintly as is possible considering the sauce. "Garlan was giving me his opinion on the various variants of apples available in the Reach." She grinned. "He thinks it will be a bad year for red apples."

Robert laughs a boyish one, "Who cares about apples I care old fruit thats it and the few dawning roses after that it is no matter to me."
Garlan looks again at Ilisebeth, "Would you care for a boat ride tomorrow there are many ... ah ... pleasure barges that sail up the Honeywine."

"I should like that Garlan, but only if first you promise to show me the docks where the real ships are. I understand soo much of the wealth of the Reach flows through Old Town, and much of it through your hands." She grins wickedly.
