Highgarden's walls are encircled by the army of Lord Caron, the Songlord. Ser Kit Kidwell, known as Kid Death, and Ser Rhodri Royce, the Redspear, also act as commanders here. Passage in and out of Highgarden is blocked, and messengers are intercepted. Archers watch closely for any ravens released from the castle to shoot them down.

Ser Rhodri has a pavilion tent in the center of the camp, and is served upon by Fee, his Stone Crow bodyguard, and Olmer Dondarrion, his squire. He is busy organizing foraging and scouting efforts for the force. His outriders will keep him informed of any activity in a wide area, and he takes ahorse himself to keep abreast of what is going on between Highgarden, Horn Hill, Oldtown and the rest of the Reach.

Ser Piers and his eight honorable guards arrive at the camp outside of Highgarden's walls. His men proudly display scarlet and gold Lannister banners.
Piers studies the banners of the great host making camp outside of the walls, and immediately makes for Rhodri Royce's camp. When the guard of the camp stops his advance, Piers calls out.
"I am Ser Piers Bettley, I am the representative of Lord Baldwin Lannister. You may call me the Lion's Mouth, take me to your commander."

The guards escort Ser Piers to Ser Rhodri's tent. A gruff man in black leathers stands watch outside, and gives Piers the gimlet eye before gesturing him in.
Rhodri stands inside at a table, with a bowl of fresh fruit and an open bottle of Arbor red captured in a raid.

A moment later, a Royce outrider bursts in.
"My lord captain, distressing news -- Kid Death is gone from camp, none of his men know where or why."
Rhodri tried to take the news in stride, to not appear ruffled in front of Bettley. But it was hard news to swallow.
"Ser Piers, forgive me, but this is an urgent matter and I must speak with Lord Caron immediately. I will have my men find a spot for you to set up your camp, and reconnoiter with you as soon as this issued is settled."

"Duty first of course. Do you have any plums?" Ser Piers follows out Rhodri's men.

Ser Rhodri leads his party back to the siege camp. While they await Ser Gathor's word, work continues on the construction of siege equipment. Outriders have also been sent to try and track Kid Death or his kidnappers.

"Well, we must leave Highgarden with at least some defenders, in case of Reachmen treachery. We have the Tyrell family as hostages, and committed to take them to Aegon. But it seems that this fight at the Rock may swing this war one way or the other. A tough decision indeed."
