The crannogman inclined his head. "As you wish. I'll see that he is well escorted to Karhold. I often find that southroners are ill prepared to face the Northern winter, even when they are expecting it. Give Pypar my love, will you?"

"I will." With that Edmure turned and left.

The next Morning Edmure rode out of Winterfell with the 24 men left of the force of 400 that came with him from Karhold all those months ago.

Felix Cassel pushed open the door to Winterfell's keep. He gave a light sigh and shivered as he felt the heat puslating off of the keeps wall. He thought of shedding his cloak but thought better of it. His business was quick, his duty fast, and his need to return to his men undeniable. As he made his way up several flights of stairs he through glances out the window. Out in the massive courtyard several men were thrusting at straw dummies with long, sharp spears, while two, Sergent Jeor and Robert by the looks of it, were in the midst of a sparring match.

He finally reached the top of the keep, where the two guards saluted him. Returning the salute in kind Felix clapped one on the shoulder as he walked by. "Jorah...send for Casimir after I'm done." The soldier nodded, and then the captain of the guard entered the solar. He immediately observed Lord Karstark talking to the Crannoglord, and made to turn out of the room.

"Excuse me?" Olander called as the man turned to leave. "Was there some matter you needed to discuss?"

Felix turned back around, and gave the customary salute. "Yes m'lord, as Winterfell's captain I thought it best you hear my report, however if you are otherwise detained I'll return later." The Cassel again put his clenched hand his chest and bowed.

Olander waved his had dismissively. "You may give your report before Lord Karstark, he is no enemy of Winterfell."

Felix nodded. "The guard of Winterfell has been doubled as you ordered, tripled at night. A watch has been put on all the side gates, and all the men go in pairs. All produce in the kitchens has been checked by Maester Casimir before and after they are cooked, he has a fairly proficient knowledge of the most common poisions as well as a few of the more rare ones found in the north." He paused for a moment, before continuing, "May I ask something freely?"

"You need Lord Gariss' permission to say something freely, Master Cassel, you do not need mine. Given that Lord Gariss' has just begun teething, however, I am sure that he will not object. Go ahead."

Felix stiffened, "The Frey at Moat Cailen...what news of him?"

Olander cocked a brow. "There is no Frey at Moat Cailin, Master Cassel. The hunchback was brought south to aid in the capture of Ser Warren, and now both are on their way North, along with other Frey conspirators."

Felix met the look, "The Frey who was at Moat Cailen. I should have said it in the past tense the first time m'lord," Without waiting for a response he continued, "The Cassels have always served House Stark unfailingly, so if I seem too forward in asking my questions it's because I am, and I do so without apology, I have nothing but loyalty to the new Lord of Winterfell and will do all in my power to save him from the same fate of his father."
"M'lord if I may continue....do you have any ideas as to how Lord Roose was killed?"

Olander nodded, and offered a small, brave smile. "And I thank you for that forwardness, Master Cassel, and I am sure Lord Gariss would thank you as well. You and I are similar in our loyalties, it seem. I do believe that the Wolf Pup will be in safe hands with the guard of you and your men."
Slowly the smiled dropped, at remembrance of the event. "The wretched Frey bespoke of a poisoning, though that much was obvious as many can attest to, myself included," he said, an unpleasant hand reaching to his belly.
The burning... I'd never imagined the pain like that...
"Though the rogue Meraxes was just an underling, apparetly. When Ser Warren is in my custody, we will discover the truth of the matter."

The captain nodded, "Of course m'lord." He paused for a moment, "The second question I want to ask is...how did the assassin get to Lord Stark a second time? The Frey was already in custody, so there was someone else, that does not need to be said. But how did the assassin get to him a second time, with your guards watching him?"
