Lannister fleet is gathered, and harbour fortified against Ironborn assualt. Marten Lannister arrives to take command, galloping straight from King`s Landing.
He inspects the fortifications ordered before Randal`s death, and orders additional work on behalf of his father, in particular increasing the number of catapults and ballistas.

Ser Tyrion Falastur was one of the foremen working to improve the harbor defenses of Lannisport. After staring at the mouth of the bay that formed the city's harbor for an hour, he snapped into action and began to order a giant boom to be constructed, that could fit in place and block any ship from entering or leaving. He could see the cranes, in his head, that would be used to raise and lower it into place. Huge, thick beams of wood would be needed. Once the Cranes were constructed, some would have to rise out of the water but some could be based on the shore, the thick oaken beams would hang from them in a way that would allow them to be rotated into a position where the beams would align and block the harbor from any ship trying to enter or leave.

////////////////////////////////////////////// As the Valkyrie slipped into the harbor, Lord Jaymes was pleased to note the massive defensive constructions that had taken place since his departure. The boom across the mouth of the bay was almost halfway completed; if any ships tried to enter the harbor the half-dozen thick wooden beams suspended by a series of ropes pulleys and cranes could be rotated into a position that would completely seal the harbor when the construction was completed.
He guided the sleek ship to a dock, and then disembarked, immediately seeking Ser Marten Lannister to discuss strategy.

Marten is found overseeing the growing fortifications. He immediately turns upon hearing the steps from behind, his instincts sharp. Then he smiles, recognizing the fellow Western Lord.
"Lord Farman, good to see you, how do you like the work here? We need to be ready, if Felryn hears about our efforts to expand the fleet, he has no choice but to attack quickly."

"I can find little fault in the harbor defences, save that they are partially completed and not fully completed. However, my lord, I do not believe Harlaw will attack us. He cannot. If he attempts to land his army anywhere on our soil, we will simply destroy him. He can reave and raid and kill our smallfolk, but he cannot invade and he knows it. Any attacks will likely be made against our fleet. He knows we do not have the ships to invade his islands yet, but he might try to attack our fleet while it is at port. This boom will certainly aid us if that happens," Jaymes replied.

"Indeed. Yet our fleet is not enough to face him in open battle yet. Do you have any suggestions?"

Lord Jaymes laughed wryly. "Acquire more ships, my lord, I fear that is our only recourse at the moment. Though, should Lord Lydden engage the Ironborn at Bear Island they will surely shunt some of their ships north to protect it, which would become far easier for us to attack the Iron Islands themselves."

A shout echoed out from the towers above the harbor. Lord Jaymes snapped his head towards the sound, and saw more than fifty sails on the horizon. He began to bellow out orders, and men around him scattered towards ships and catapults and ballistae, and Marten simply began to laugh. "The banners..."
Jaymes froze, and then began to laugh as well. The ships flew under Lannister crimson and gold banners, although the majority of them also flew the a flag whose device Jaymes could not make out. As they drew closer, it coalesced into a sun, pierced by a spear.
A short while later, Ser Tytos Falastur disembarked from the lead ship and approached Jaymes and Marten who had watched the ships enter the harbor. He bowed respectfully to Marten, and then turned to Jaymes.
"I was only able to purchase twenty War Galleys from the Sealord of Braavos, he spun me a tale about being in high demand for ships and said that he had sold in advance, the sixty that they could build over the next moon's turn. Lies, in my opinion, but I bought what I could and returned here. Luckily I received your letter before leaving Braavos, and was able to stop in Sunspear borrow these forty from the Dornish," he said, gesturing to the other ships.

Beric rode his horse along the harbor, eyeing the ships that lay at bay. He approached a sailor who was tending to one of the ships bearing the banner of house Martell.
“You, sailor! Find the commander of these ships and tell him I have arrived.”
The sailor looked at him suspiciously.
“And who might you be?”
”Why, I’m Ser Beric Dayne, the man in charge of the Dornish fleet.”
