Gwayne nodded thoughtfully. "Have neither sent a kinsman - or woman - as representative? Surely at least one of the two has at least done so."

"They have representatives here of course, but it is still a slight, and they are showing their independence. Whether it is a power move, or a play for power will be seen later." Bertrem replied.

"Yes. Perhaps it would be worth having the new queen pay a visit to these lords after her coronation, to ensure they have the opportunity to pledge their fealty in person?" Gwayne suggested. "In such a situation, refusal would be a clear indication of treason. And you might arrange to question their households regarding any suspicious visitors or letters."

"If the queen goes to them, then she is the weaker... ummm is she not?" Bertrem asked, "Might be just what some of them want." He scratched his chin, and added, "Do you have any thoughts on who the Queen should wed?"

Gwayne considered for a moment. "A son of one of the Paramount houses, for a certainty. Her Grace needs a strong army and that is the best way to be sure of one. The man who weds her will want to protect his own investment, particularly after the queen bears her first child. So he should be a Lord Paramount or else close kin to one."
He paused for breath.
"I would be honoured by Her Grace's friendship, and would be pleased to wed her, if she should choose me. My brother Gareth is unwed as well, and because he is not a Lord Paramount, would make a most admirable consort if Her Grace would prefer to spend most of her time in Kings Landing. Otherwise, well, some of the Lords Paramount have unwed sons, I believe. I am sure any of those would suit, though I am not well acquainted with any of them."

"It is kind of you to volunteer, but as a loyal servant to the Queen would it be better to tie a reluctant house to the crown? Or yours which is a loyal as the day is long." Bertrem asked.

"I should think that depends on the house," Gwayne replied, wondering what in seven hells Tyrell actually wanted from him. "So, I suppose you must ask yourself whether the reluctant houses possess members who are of a suitable age to wed the princess, and will they be well placed to offer military aid, should she need it. Do they have the gold? Stark and Royce may well have suitable candidates, but the Starks are so far north and they are hardly among the wealthiest, especially since there is said to be bad feeling between them and the Manderlys, who are surely the wealthiest of the northern houses, since they rule White Harbor. As for the Royces, well, the Eyrie is so remote."
He sighe.
"Fortunately the decision is not mine to make. I personally would prefer to be wed to someone I can trust. But I am not the princess, of course."

Tyrell stood suddenly, and offered Hightower his hand, "Gwayne you are a wonderfully rarity in this pit of vipers. You are an honest man and a loyal one. I think you should be rewarded for that. Would you like to come upstairs and met Rose?"

The suggestion stunned him. He had been so sure that he wouldn't get to meet the princess for days yet. But he had to smile.
"Of course. I would be truly honoured, so long as the princess is willing."

Tyrell smiled, "Come with me. We will walk up and see if she is willing to speak with you." He opened the door from his office, and held it for Gwayne.

Tyrell's willingness to hold the door for him surprised Gwayne. But he went through the door as requested. He felt nervous excitement and curiosity.

Tyrell lead him upstairs and into a new room. Rose was seated in a chair. She wore black breeches, and a long red tunic. Her feet were bare, and draped over the arm of the chair.

Gwayne stepped forward and knelt before the princess.
"Your Grace. I am honoured to meet you at last."
He looked up to see if she was beautiful.

Not quite a beauty she had the auburn hair of a Tyrell, with pale skin and a striking nose. She dropped the book, and stood quickly. "Oh... Lord Hightower... it is my pleasure."

Gwayne was tall so it was not often he had the uncomfortable feeling of looking up at someone, as he did now. But he was too polite to rise without being given permission to do so.
"The pleasure is all mine," he replied. "I would offer you the sympathies of House Hightower and the Far Reach, and our fealty as well."
