Rose replied, "I am sure of quite a different thing."

"You must have more faith, Your Grace." he said with earnest. "The blood of kings runs through your veins. In short time, with sound counsel, I am sure that will be made apparent to all."

"Your words are kind." Rose replied, and looked down into the fountain.

"If you require anything of the Stormlands, house Baratheon is at your service, as always." he offered, eyes turning to the fountain as well. "Leal servants as any and more so than most."

Rose smiled, "And from what my uncle says, capable."

"Your uncle would certainly be the one to know." Oswyn replied with a grin. "Though you will have to judge those claims for yourself."

"He is, truly?" Teirney squeezed his hand encouragingly, feeling sincere pride at Leyton's accomplishments. He had always been a sweet and very hardworking boy, and Teirney considered her father's attitude towards him as decidedly lacking. It was not right hat such a creature as Leyton could ever go overlooked, and she always ensured to shower him with praise and attention whenever she had the opportunity, despite his sometimes puzzling quietness. "It should have come sooner, Leyton, but I am glad it is happening finally! You must make sure to rest for tomorrow! You need to send word to your mother and father about this." "Thank you." Leyton beamed. "I am sure that your father had reasons for waiting, but I am glad I have finally earned my spurs!" His smile faded slightly at the mention of his parents. "You are right of course, I should write to my mother. I...well regretablly I'm unsure where my father is right now, it has been some time since I have heard from him. Perhaps my uncle knows of his whereabouts." Leyton looked thoughtful for a moment, before seemingly dismissing the thought that had been troubling him. "But neither of my parents are here right now, and were they I am sure I would have embarrassed them through my poor manners. How have you been Teirney? It has been quite some time since we last spoke, as you said yourself." Teirney immediately regretted bringing any mention of the boy's parents--it was not a topic in which neither she nor Leyon appeared well-versed, and the latter was expressing something short of enthusiasm to have to wrestle with the fact. She set to work steering the them as far from that conversational pitfall as she could manage. "I have always found your manners to be simply impeccable," she protested airily. "You needn't always be so humble, particularly now that you will be a knight. I have seen you be nothing but brave and just in all your ventures, and any person could be proud, myself included." She shrugged as he asked after her life as well--how could she explain it to anyone, truly? Her life was something she herself did not understand, at the moment, and she could give little more than perfunctory responses to even the most sincere inquiries. It felt lonely at times, but she never shied away from things simply because they were difficult. "I have been very well, Leyton. Many presume my life at Court is all excitement, but there are days I miss the Rock terribly. Home is always home, is it not?"

Many presume my life at Court is all excitement, but there are days I miss the Rock terribly. Home is always home, is it not?" "Indeed it is. I often missed Casterly Rock while I was fighting in the Stepstones. I have missed Oldtown and the Hightower as well, on occasion." Leyton replied, putting the place where he had spent the majority of his youth and made the entirety of his friendships ahead of his birthplace. "As for my knighthood, surely it is all the more cause to be humble." he said, shifting the topic to one Teirney had raised slightly earlier. "I have been blessed by both the gods and your father. It is important to respect the truth that without either, I would be nothing. What you have generously praised as my virtues are nothing but accessories of my duties, formerly as a squire and now as a knight. In any event, I am glad that you are well. Nothing dampens joy faster than the sorrow of a friend."

Rather than feel embarrassed or slighted, Oswyn simply grinned.
"Then I will have to strive harder to make my own name." he said with good humor. "A son's greatest challenge is to escape the shadow of his father, and mine throws a longer one than most."

"I have two shadows to still escape, and I have no idea which is longer." Rose replied.

"I would not consider yourself with your brother's shadow any longer." Oswyn responded. "Infamy is not something to aspire to."

Rose shook her head, "His shadow is slight really. I was only referring to my uncle and grandfather."

"In that case you have little to concern yourself with. They are both servants of the Crown. We all live beneath the shadow of the Throne."

"Says like a man who has spent no time in court." Rose replied, "Do you think it was my father running the realms all these years, because I can assure you it was not."
