Gareth sauntered in and took a seat. As he waited for the others he fidgeted restlessly.

After a while, Annara entered with Alys Florent, who had been raised with the two younger daughters. Gwayne greeted them warmly and grinned over at his brother; the reunion with Violet and their sons had put him in a much better mood.
"Well, brother, home at last," he mused. "Let us hope our kin arrive presently."

After a while, Annara entered with Alys Florent, who had been raised with the two younger daughters. Gwayne greeted them warmly and grinned over at his brother; the reunion with Violet and their sons had put him in a much better mood. "Well, brother, home at last," he mused. "Let us hope our kin arrive presently." Gareth nodded, his fingers drumming on the table impatiently. He rose to greet his mother and cousin. His mother he had already seen, but this was the first time he had seen his cousin for some years. "Alys, you have grown. Not unexpectedly of course, but still a pleasant surprise. You must be fighting off the suitors."

Alys smiled boldly at Gareth. "Oh, please, I am not a child, cousin! I am a woman grown. And there's no suitors either. At least nobody I'd accept. Anyway, I wish I could have gone with you both. I would love to have an adventure."

"Yes, I can see you're a woman grown." Gareth said raising an eyebrow. "You weren't such when I left for the Stepstones, some five years ago. And the Stepstones was no adventure. It was heat, blood and death."

"Oh, but at least you must have seen some fine things," she said brightly. "I had forgotten it was so long ago. But I am sure you are right, Gareth." Though it was clear she did not think so.

"Fine things in the Stepstones?" asked Gareth with a smile. "A desolate bunch of islands, more valuable for their strategic location rather than anything that is on them. Anything valuable there would have been stripped away by pirates long ago."

"Oh, how tragic," Alys sighed. "But the people you were fighting, maybe they had treasures too?" Her voice was hopeful.

"Land and strongholds." replied Gareth. "Many young ladies are likely not to be interested in those."

OOC - cool, meant to ask about that!
Alys grinned at Gareth. "But are their castles the same as the ones we have in Westeros, or are they different? Surely the last few years must have been worth something?"

"Different in style perhaps." replied Gareth. "Five years of war has ended quite well for me."
