Inside this room was a modest table, a few chairs and a long chaise couch. It was only modest by Dornish standards meaning it lavishly decorated and many for other guests that were not family.

A servant announced the arrival of Doreah Lannister to the Martell Manse. The lady was unaccompanied by others of her Lannister family.

Evan hugged her, looking around her,"Where is your husband,?" His sister did not look as jovial as she always did,"What is wrong, Doreah? I wanted to ask at the feast but it seemed the wrong time."

Doreah felt immensely relieved to be in her brother’s company once more, and her entire body went slack as years of pressure were finally expelled.
“Evan,” she began uncertainly, “it has not been right since I left home. They are all truly horrible, every single one. To raise my children in such a base and unruly household…And Aurane…None of it is as I had imagined, but then I was a fool for believing stories are any indication of our true lives.”
Her expression was deeply sad but tempered with the strength of her character and experience. She was a strange mixture of child and woman before him, but she knew he would understand her unsettled state.

Evan sighed, looking at her,"I thought marrying a Lannister would have been every woman's dream." He sat her down,"With you it is not the case? What is the problem within the family? I have heard rumors that Lord Lannister abused his wife for many years and his sons, but I never truly knew of it was true or not."
"What is happening, Doreah? What has happened?"

“It is true, Evan,” she admitted quietly. “Lord Gerion is a monster, if I have ever seen one. He finds any reason to beat Lady Winifred senseless, and has beaten his newly-returned son within an inch from death—if you could see the child! He is abhorrent to all, and leers at me when he thinks I am blind enough not to see. He shames us, Evan. He shames the Lannisters before all the great Houses, and he lowers Martell by association. I have tried to speak to my husband of this, but he is little better than his father.” She threw up her hands in frustration.

Evan sighed deeply, then looked at his sister,"He is a product of his father as you are predict of ours. He was not raised as you, his pride is not as yours. His father had robbed all of them." Trading his finger on his lip, he thought.
"And you said they shame us by association, how? We are half a world away, his actions do not affect Dorne or the Martell as I have seen." His eyes narrowed,"Has he harmed you or the children?"

“Our families are married together,” she explained vehemently. “When they laugh at House Lannister, they laugh at House Martell, the fools who lie with the drunken Lions.” She paused, regaining her composure. “Lord Gerion has not harmed me or the children, his affections for Aurane are too complete. But Casterly Rock is not a place I would have chosen to raise my children…or myself. And Aurane…my husband does not love me at all. I am nothing to him.”

Evan sighed again, the one of the most seemingly advantageous alliances is crumbling before his eyes or was it gone years ago. He looked at Doreah, not wanting to say what was on his mind.
"Would it be so bad for her to continue to do her duty, but it is a slight on their house letting this activity smudge the reputation of House Martell. They were not associated with any other family in the seven kingdoms that are as wealthy and influential as the Lannisters."
Shaking his head slowly, with his eyes closed. "Doreah, what can we do to change this? In ten years your marriage has turned on its ear, why? It had to more than Lord Gerion and his barbaric ways. It was apparent that he loved you those many years ago as you also loved him. I am at a loss, dear sister."

"You mistake me, Evan. It is my duty to bear this burden, and I will—have borne it. Aurane…he must be mine own fault. He was but a boy when we met, and no one could say who he would be once a man grown. His father has ruined him by the years, but…I must not have been to his liking either. Perhaps I, too, grew to be a woman he did not desire. My sadness in this marriage is something that cannot be changed—this I know. However, I cannot raise my children by a tyrant like Gerion Lannister. That I cannot abide. I will not have him do to my children what he has done to his own.” Suddenly, Doreah’s voice became dangerous. There was a darkness to her expression that very few people had ever seen there before.

Doreah", he stared at her, concerned. "What can we do as a family? What do you need?" He felt helpless in this situation. "You have thoughts, I can see that, but be rational. Things may change as of yet, one of your children are going to be a ward of the Crown, are they not?" He took her hand softly,"I want to protect you. Maybe I should speak to him? Your tone concerns me.." Evan looked in her eyes,"What has happened to you?"

Doreah felt instantly calmed, and she took a breath to steady her nerves before responding. "Evan, you need not worry--it is not something foolishly rash. There is a way to go about it, and you will see its merits." She began to explain.

He sighed, kissed her forehead softly then listened to her explanation,"Alright, if you say that you have this under control then I trust you." He touched her hand again,"Just be careful, I don't want to see anything happen to you." "And I am sorry that this has happened. I truly believed that you two were... Blissfully married."

"We were, for a time..." But it hurt her to worry her brother so, so she adopted a more cheerful expression. "Do not worry for me, brother. I am strong enough to bear this. I have my children, and I still have my true family. I must see Adrien--she will be a woman grown now. And Lyssa, too, and the others."

He then sighed,"Adrien is married to Ser VIctor Yronwood, but she is not...."He shook his head,"She is not like Lyssandra. They were reared together, but she is.... Not taking to married life too well or fulfilling her duties." "He is a pompous ass, but I did it for us and for Dorne. It was a decision for longstanding peace." He slowly shook his head again,"But I just had to threaten my son in law, not long ago. I did not want to do that, but it couldn't be helped." "I think he got the message."
