Mariya had to laugh at that.
"Are you sure hw's docile enough for you?"
She began to wonder if Isolvelle was more experienced than she claimed. Nevertheless. she reached forward and patted the gelding.

"Only one way to find out, am I right?" she winked and lifted the latch on the stall.

"That's true. If you want, I could walk him for you while you're mounted? That's how I learned when I was little."

"I wouldn't hear of it; here I am interrupting your riding time and I'd have you on foot and coddling me like a child. No, no, up on your mare, my girl, and lead the way. This blackguard and I will make due just fine if we take it slowly, I think.," she assured Mariya with a lopsided grin tousling the horse's mane.

"ALright. As long as you're sure. Do you need help mounting?"

"No, thank you, Mariya, but I wouldn't abjure a blind eye to the embarrassing lack of grace I am about to unleash on the Kingdom," she winked and lifted herself awkwardly into the saddle. "Shall we carry on?" she asked smiling.

"Of course."
Mariya swung gracefully into the saddle and led the way out of the saddle. Then she turned and watched to see how Isolvelle was coping.

Not one to glide with easy grace neither by foot nor by hoof, Isolvelle gripped the reigns tightly so as to start out at a slow, manageable pace. After a few minutes she loosed her grip some but kept a wary eye on the animal's steps and stayed closely tuned to his gait. "Where are we headed, Mariya?" she asked lightly, lifting an eyebrow, though her eyes never left the horse.

"Oh, I was going to ride through the city but we could go somewhere else if you prefer. Perhaps somewhere less populated would be more appropriate?"

"That sounds lovely!" She answered quickly, "I haven't seen much of the city at all apart from a quick trip through on my way in from the capitol," she spurred the gelding forward a bit faster, overcome with enthusiasm at the idea of exploring what would likely be her home for a long while yet.

"Careful," Mariya warned. "Don't go too fast."
She looked over her shoulder at Isolvelle.
"The city it is, then. Were you betrothed to Lord Hightower for very long before you were married?"

"It was rather a short betrothal, in fact," she answered bemusedly, her line of sight finally breaking with the plodding steps of the horse, her gaze roaming towards a sky filled sunlight and soft, cherubesque clouds. "No more than two months...I had never met him before that. How did you find him, having grown up at the Hightower? I'm sure you have an abundance of insight into the man's character." Her tone was soft, low, and meandering, almost as if she were speaking to herself.

"Um..."
Mariya was silent for a while, and the horses' hooves were the dominant sound. Them she spoke at last.
"I can't claim to know Lord Hightower especially well. He seeks power, I think, and he's a fighting man. And loves family. It's odd though, even though we had all the children at the Hightower, I didn't see much of Lord Hightower. Maester Lymond taught us, and Lady Gennifyr was like our mother, so I knew them both far better."

"I am sorry for the grief you all must feel in the absence of Lady Gennifyr," Isolvelle answered in a small voice, her brow furrowed, "It has cast a shadow on it all, for me, to know at what cost it has all come--all these changes."

Her knuckles went white as she gripped her bridle.
"It's not your fault." she said. "People die. Please don't blame yourself. I loved Lady Gennifyr like a mother but...the gods take who they will. You had no part in it. It must have been her time."
She sighed heavily as she urged her horse onwards.
"I don't seem to be very good at keeping mothers."
